MAILBAG AND NOTES…..6-30-06

Periodically, I’ll answer reader emails here on the site. Here’s the first batch:

“What did you think of the Lakers drafting Jordan Farmar?”
–Dave Q

Not much. For a team that needed a quick fix, they draft a guy who they admit won’t play much next year. And for a team that doesn’t have a whole lot of athleticism on it, they pass up Cincy’s James White? Amazing. Farmar averaged 5 assists and 4 turnovers in two years at UCLA, and made numerous untimely turnovers. On the plus side, he’s not afraid to take the big shot, and he’s capable of making it. He’s also got great leaping ability………

“What the **** is Bill Stoneman doing? The Angels are falling apart and he’s sitting around like Nero.”
–Jim P

Good question. If the Angels don’t make a big move–and soon–this season is going down the tubes. Carlos Lee, Carl Crawford, Broderick Crawford, Matthew Broderick, I don’t care who it is. Something needs to be done now. I know I’m in the minority, but I think Stoneman has done a great job in building the Angels into a top-flight major league team. But he needs to adjust his conservative approach if he wants to contend this season. And he’s very lucky the Halos are only 7 games out as this is written……….

“Don’t you want hockey fans as listeners and readers? You hardly ever discuss hockey”
–Jen

Has nothing to do with that, Jen. I love hockey, but it’s just not something that people want to talk about extensively on the radio. When there’s something worth talking about–that will interest the majority of the listening or reading audience–I will………

“What do you think about the “new” ECW?”
–Sal

Anthing that puts more wrestling out there, I’m all for it. If anyone was expecting the ECW from the 1990’s, you had the wrong expectations. It’s 2006 and Vince McMahon–not Paul Heyman–is running things. So, you’ve got a WWE version of ECW. But it means more jobs for the workers, and more TV time for us fans, so I’ll take it. Plus, my man Rob Van Dam is the champ of both organizations, so it works for me!

“Joe, a Ram fan is a Ram fan forever. Stop hating them for moving to St. Louis.”
–Jerry

I will, Jerry–as soon as the hag Frontiere sells the team or dies–whichever come first. I have no preference for either–except speed. I’d love to be able to root for my team again.

Ned Coletti should be the Executive of the Year in MLB. He’s has taken an organization left in ruins by Paul DePodesta and put it back among the living. I guess Moneyball isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. As soon as Moneyball wins a few World Series, let me know……….

My spies keep telling me that outgoing NFL Commissioner The Late Paul Tagliabue is VERY interested is garnering a piece of the ownership for the new team here in LA. If that’s true, it explains why all the movement toward a new franchise has been expedited………

Wouldn’t it be justice if the NFL forced the hag to sell the team to LA concerns and we got the Rams back? Hey, I’m allowed to dream!……….

Please, just keep Al Davis away from this city……….

My favorite baseball movies:

–For Love of the Game
–Long Gone
–The Natural
–Bull Durham
–Eight Men Out……….

Superman Returns rocks!………
